Claude vs Gemini for business: which one should you use?

If you run on Google Workspace, start with Gemini, because it's built into Gmail, Docs and Drive and may already be in the plan you pay for. If you want the best partner for long documents and careful writing, Claude, at $20 a month for one person.

Full disclosure, I build with Claude most days, so take my lean with that in mind. Hope this helps.

Prices checked October 2026 from Anthropic's and Google's pricing pages. Google often runs intro discounts, so the number you see may be lower for a few months. Ignore that when you budget.

Claude: the careful writer

Made by Anthropic. A separate app, strong where words matter.

Where Claude shines
  • Long documents. Drop in a contract or a meeting transcript and it keeps the whole thing straight.
  • Writing that needs fewer rewrites. Proposals, emails and how-tos tend to sound more natural.
  • Projects. Save your voice and your process docs once, and every chat in that project starts with them.
Where it gets annoying
  • Another app and another bill. It's not sitting in your inbox.
  • No image generation. You'll need something else for graphics.
  • Usage caps on Pro. Heavy users bump into them. Max starts at $100.

Gemini: AI where you already work

Made by Google, built into Workspace.

Where Gemini shines
  • It's already there. Summarize a long email thread or draft a reply without leaving Gmail.
  • It can see your Drive. Ask about a doc or sheet you already have.
  • Often no new bill. If your Workspace plan includes it, it's free to try today.
Where it gets annoying
  • Plan names keep changing. Workspace tiers, Google AI Plus, Pro, Ultra. It's easy to buy something you already have.
  • Best inside Google. If you're on Microsoft 365, most of the appeal goes away.
  • Starter is limited. Business Starter only gets Gemini in Gmail.

Which one should you pick?

Check your Workspace plan before anything else.

1. Learn what you already have

Open your Workspace admin and see what plan you're on. If Gemini is there, use it for a month on your real inbox before you buy anything.

2. Pick one if it really fits
  • Gemini if most of your day is email, docs and meetings in Google.
  • Claude if most of your day is writing, proposals and long documents.
3. Build what's missing

If the real problem is info moving between your inbox, your CRM and a spreadsheet by hand, a chatbot won't fix that. Connecting those systems will.

Is Claude or Gemini better for business?

If your business already runs on Google Workspace, start with Gemini, because it lives inside Gmail, Docs and Drive and may already be in the plan you pay for. If you want the strongest writing and document partner and don't mind a separate app, Claude. Plenty of people use Gemini for the inbox and Claude for the heavy writing.

Is Gemini included in Google Workspace?

Yes, on the business plans. Google's pricing page lists Gemini in Gmail on Business Starter, and Gemini across Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive and Meet on Business Standard and up. Business Standard is $14 a user per month on the flexible plan. Check what your plan includes before you buy anything else.

How much do Claude and Gemini cost?

For one person, Claude Pro is $20 a month or $17 billed annually, and Google AI Pro is $19.99 a month. For teams, Claude Team is $25 a seat monthly or $20 billed annually, while Gemini comes bundled into Google Workspace business plans.

Can I use both?

Sure, but start with one. If you're on Google Workspace, learn the Gemini you already have first. Add Claude when you hit something Gemini doesn't do well for you, not because a new model came out.

Is my data safe in Gemini or Claude?

Both companies say business plans don't use your data to train their models by default. Personal plans have their own settings, so read them before you paste client info. And never put passwords or health records into any chat tool.

When you don't need me

For picking a chat tool, you really don't.

You're on Workspace and haven't tried Gemini. Turn it on and use it for a month. Free answer.

You want a writing partner. Pay for Claude Pro and use it every day. No help needed.

You already use one and like it. Stay put and learn it deeper.

What changed
