What an AI website costs a small business
Doing it yourself on a builder like Squarespace costs $19 to $99 a month billed annually, and most builders now use AI to draft the first version. Having it built for you starts at $1,000 for a three-page Handled WebSight, and a custom site starts at $2,500.

If you're comparing against hiring a freelancer by the hour, the Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median wage for web developers and digital designers at $47.85 an hour in its May 2025 wage survey. That's an employee wage, and freelance rates vary a lot, so ask for a fixed project price instead of an hourly estimate.
What pushes the price up
1. Pages. Three pages is a small job. A page per service, per location and per team member adds up.
2. The site doing something. Booking, a store, a quote form that feeds your CRM. Each one is real work and real testing.
3. Connecting to what you already run. Pulling a catalog from Square or bookings from your scheduling tool is where custom sites earn their price.
4. Moving an old site. Keeping your domain and search rankings means mapping old pages to new ones so nothing breaks. Worth doing right.
The costs nobody puts in the proposal
Photos. Stock photos make a small business look like every other small business. Real photos of your place and your work cost a shoot and pay off every day the site is up.
Words. Someone has to write what you do in plain language. AI can draft it, but you have to fix it so it sounds like you.
Monthly vs annual billing. Builder prices you see first are usually the annual rate. Squarespace's Core plan is $29 a month billed annually and $39 month to month.
Apps you plug in. Booking, chat, email signups. Each can carry its own monthly fee on top of the site.

You like building things and have a free weekend. Pick a builder, use its AI draft as a starting point, and put your real photos in it.
Your site already works and brings in calls. Don't rebuild it because it looks a little dated. Update the photos and the words first.
You want more traffic, not a new site. That's a marketing question, and I'd tell you so.
